Common Problems with Concrete Sealers

Common Problems with Concrete Sealers

Read on to learn more about a few common issues associated with concrete sealers!

Concrete construction work is a dangerous and hard job for anyone involved. Even with how durable concrete is, it can still suffer damage from malfunctions from equipment, time, and bad weather. That is why concrete sealers are used as a method to protect concrete adequately. It functions much easier as a sealer would usually on a hardwood floor. Read on to learn more about a few common issues associated with concrete sealers, and why you should trust G&M Services to handle all concrete matters you may have.

The Concrete Sealer Bubbled

For one thing, it is entirely possible that the concrete sealer bubbled. Bubbles come from the overapplication of the sealer, which can be as bad as it sounds. Air bubbles trapped within the concrete sealer are unsightly and may weaken the integrity of the sealant in the first place. However, a bigger issue comes in the form of applying sealers in hot weather. Even though we’re only in the middle of March, temperatures of 80 degrees and above will be here before you know it. That weather is uncomfortable for people, and it can be for concrete too.

It Is Turning White

Another issue that comes from the concrete sealer turning white. Obviously, this should not occur. A solvent-based concrete sealer can help “blush” – that is to say, it could slowly turn white. Moisture buildup contributes a lot to this issue, as does wet concrete. Working with some wet concrete involves the introduction of more water, especially to help keep tools and equipment cold and prevent overheating. However, that water might unintentionally cause a lot of problems for you.

It Has Turned Powdery

The sealer should not be powdery either. This type of condition comes from water-based sealers. Temperature and humidity have a big influence over what happens to any water-based sealers. Make sure you do some research on the two significant factors that contribute to this issue. In other words, find out what the temperature and humidity levels should be to make sure that the concrete sealer is applied correctly.

Concrete is Blotchy or Dark

Acrylic sealers usually tend to darken the concrete to which they’ve been applied. It also makes the concrete appear glossy, which on the surface does not sound possible. However, it is. Since each concrete slab is unique, you never really know which result you’ll get. Sealers bring out the true colors and the so-called grain of your concrete. This in itself is not an issue, but the color-changing effects after the sealer is applied could become an issue.
