Concrete cutting and core drilling can be a challenging endeavor to undertake and complete. That’s why we know that your sites and projects often call for the best experts, technicians, and workers. Here at G&M Services, we are proud to present a wire sawing project that we recently completed. Read on to learn more about it.

The Location

Our wire sawing project was located in Washington, DC. More specifically, the site was at 1201 Half Street, in the Southeast part of the city.

The Project

Now for more information about the project itself. The block that was cut weighed 7,500 pounds. Thirty-six 5-inch PVC pipes were inserted into the duct bank by the block before the wire saw cutting process began. The purpose of these pipes were to indicate where the cuts should go. Normally, the duct banks are found closer to the ground. There was one major difference with this project, however. The duct bank was actually elevated, which necessitated further planning before any progress could be made. This planning was to help ensure the safety of the workers involved.

As a solution to the dilemma the cutters faced, the wire saw was installed on the floor beneath the block. The wire was then wrapped around the duct banks. By doing this, our employees could be sure that they could complete their work on time and as safely as possible. You might be wondered how we managed to lift the block off of the ground? We used what is known as a 2-chain hoist. The 2-chain hoist was attached to the ceiling with sturdy bolts. The bolts were put in place to support brackets that were mounted directly onto the block itself, which would help hold the block steady while it was being cut.

Because of all this preparation, no problems were encountered, and the project went ahead smoothly. It only took one day to cut the block down to the size it needed to be. Ultimately, the success of the project proved why it’s so important to have skilled and dedicated employees completing all of your wire saw or concrete cutting projects for you. Everything was completed as per all necessary safety measures, and it met the deadline that it was initially set for when the project began.
