How many times have you or someone you work with ran over and grabbed something without thinking about how a poor lifting technique could end up costing you? Getting work done on time is important, but nagging injuries or being constantly sore can only slow you down and make things harder. Worst case, you seriously hurt yourself and end up missing time at work. The best way to avoid injuries and keep your productivity high is using the proper lifting technique. Not exactly sure what that is? Keep reading to find out!
Just like with exercising, you should never start lifting without stretching first. The lower back and the hamstrings are the two parts of the body that bare the majority of the weight when lifting. You don’t need to go full sun salutation, just some light stretching to loosen the muscles and tendons of your back and legs.
Alright, you’re all loose and ready to lift, but first make sure you have a clear path so you don’t have to make any awkward movements or spend more time carrying a lot of weight. When you go to lift the object squat down with a wide stance and one foot to the side for better balance. Grab the object on opposite corners with a strong grip. Be sure to keep your back straight and your core tight. Lift slowly by extending your legs, exhaling as you stand up.
